benefit 35% reduction in energy costs
challenge The manufacturing buildings at a major healthcare manufacturer are individually billed for their site central energy centre’s operational costs based on each building’s size. Our challenge was to reduce these costs.
solution The 19 HVAC air handling systems were a major contributor to the energy costs in one particular building. Environmental Engineering undertook HVAC energy audits and presented options on how a reduced cost base could be realised. An in-depth study of each system was undertaken to determine an accurate operational cost using local hourly weather data, first principal calculations and heat loss/gain data to create a thermal model of each area using our unique software.

The 20 year-old design of the systems was challenged and the change in use of various areas considered in providing modifications/improvements to the systems which included inverters, heat recovery, re-commissioning and free cooling.
benefit A saving of 35% in the annual energy costs of the building was realised with a one-year payback for the improvements.
